The other day I was listening to NPR for a few hours. I know, you are asking how do you have time to listen to the radio for hours when you work full time? Well, it just so happened that I drove all the way to work with my husband's car keys in my pocket and had to drive all the way home then all the way back. This journey was just short of 90 minutes.
So the discussion with some senator was all about Filibusters. In case you did not know, this is the definition: "A filibuster (also known as talking out a bill) is a type of parliamentary procedure. Specifically, it is a form of obstruction in a legislature or other decision-making body whereby a lone member can elect to delay or entirely prevent a vote on a proposal."
Did you get that? Delay or prevent a vote. Basically the whole point is to let the clock run out. So in essence, we are paying our legislators, the ones we elected to run our country, do nothing. One guys just read the phone book. Really? Am I working my butt off to save the world getting paid 1/100th of what they are getting paid, and they reading the phone book, outlaid, to waste time.
Does anyone else get outraged about this? What kind of an example is this for America... How would our country run if we could all just waste time when things did not go our way? Would kids be taught? Would hearts be transplanted? Would taxes be filed? Would garbage be collected? Would mail get delivered? No, and we couldn't even read phone books to waste time, cause guys that publish them would be mad about something and not doing their job either.
