All of you faithful readers know my passion for education the public on HIV. You also know my passion for adoption. I am asking for your help to spread the word. (if you want a reminder of my HIV soap box, click HERE).

The following info can be cut and pasted to your own blog, can be forwarded to anyone you think might be interested. You may not be able to adopt or adopt a child with HIV, but all of us can be a part of the solution, just by sharing information, just by educating.

Positively Connected
(Understanding the joys and challenges of raising a child who is HIV+)

Bethany Christian Services (www.bethany.org) has partnered with the Grand Rapids Red Project (http://redproject.org/) to provide support and education to local adoptive families.

Together we will be hosting an evening of information sharing and resource connection for families who have adopted or are considering adopting a child with HIV. We will also hear testimonials from families who are living with and affected by HIV.

We invite anyone interested to join us for dessert and informal discussion on the evening of June 2, 2010. Children are welcome to attend. Families will be given resources to take home. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Center at our headquarters in Grand Rapids (901 Eastern Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49501).

Here are some facts about HIV and AIDS:
Today, 6,500 people will die as a result of AIDS.

6,000 of those people will leave behind children.

Those children will join the already 15 million children who have lost parents to this treatable disease.

2.3 million children are infected with HIV world-wide.

It is estimated that, without treatment, 50% of HIV+ children in resource-poor settings will die by the age of two.
