It takes a village...

...to stop a flood.

I live in the best neighborhood. We are on a small little cul-de-sac, known as "The Sac". We do the regular neighbor stuff, get each other's mail, have barbecues & campfires, take each other's dogs to the groomer, go on vacation together, sit in the driveway from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m playing corn hole, you know, usual stuff. Last week though, we had a crisis of sorts and it was very exciting to see everyone pull together. This might be confusing so try to follow.

Picture this, it was a dark and cloudy afternoon, rain was pelting against the windows, wind was blowing leaves all around. Suddenly a flash of lightning strikes and power is out. The unsuspecting neighbors go about business as usual until...

Josh notices Kindra sneaking into neighbors back yards. He mentions this to Sarah (me) who calls Stacey, since she always knows what is going on. Stacey is up to her ankles in water in her basement so has no idea what is going on in the back yards. Sarah walks out to talk to Kindra who has appeared again and Kindra states there is a river running through the back yards of about 10 houses. Suddenly it clicks- No power = no sump pump. Josh runs downstairs, water has filled the utility room. Josh drives off to the rental store to find something... Meanwhile, Kristin comes home with a generator and hooks it between her house (which she discovered is flooded) and Mike and Stacey who have ankle deep water. Kristin calls hubby Bryant who stops at a friends house for another generator. Kindra's husband drives to his parents to get their generator. (So far they are dry.) We then realize that Chris and Jody are not home and Bill's out of town. So Bryant and Matt both arrive with generators. Josh and Sarah are hooked to one, Bryant and Kristin hook up to the same one and Mike and Stacey's generator moves closer to Bill's house. Someone breaks into Bill's and hooks his sump pump up with about 2 seconds to spare before flooding. Matt uses his key to get into Patty's house and Mike helps Mary Jo figure out her house. Bryant gets on a ladder and climbs through Chris and Jody's bedroom window. With in minutes there are 7 houses hooked up to 3 generators. Sarah makes a taco bell run. 2 days later, Chris has 4 keys made for neighbors so no one has to climb through his window again.

Isn't that what it is all about!
