Begging

I noticed in the 2 cities we have been in, I have only seen one beggar. Sometimes you don't notice the absence of something until you see it again for the first time. I asked Shiyan, our guide, about this and she said it is not very common, but it does happen. Here is what she shared about beggars:

In China their is a program for homeless adults (no wife, children to care for them) it is like an orphanage for adults. They get a bed and food. Most impoverished people do not want this though they want money. Many rural poor will come to the city to beg and if they are good at it will earn enough money to go home and build a home. This inspires others in their village to do the same. An entire village might build all their homes through begging as their employment.
